Self Assessment
Chapter 6 dicusses social, ethical, legal, and human issues. Social, Ethical, Legal, and Human issues entails a wide range of topics including, digital equity, privacy and student records, online safety, technology and copyright, and policies, procedures and advocacy. Williamson and Redish, (2009), contend support from district, state and legal agency is necessary when dealing with these issues. When thinking about these issues with technology I did not even think about what each section pertained to. This standard is not just about legal issues, as some may not realize. The human aspect of this standard is one that cannot be overlooked. I learned that digital equity is achieved when all students have quick, easy, and appropriately functional access to equipment and the Internet both in and out of school, as well as the expert guidance required to ensure effective use across a range of functions, Education Cyber Playground, 1997). It discusses the link among technology, economic power, and political action, (Williamson & Redish, 2009, p.124). The chapter also discussed privacy and student records and how that deals with protecting students while they are on the web, online safety discusses that schools, are required by law, to have filters so that students cannot view inappropraite sites, the topic of technology and copyright discusses plagiarism and unauthorized duplication. I feel that this is one that is discussed more outside the school setting rather than in. People are always talking about downloading materials from the web and don't feel that they are doing wrong. They need to be educated about these issues or shown what is the right or wrong way to use these things. Policies, procedures, and advocacy dicussed the importance of having these and being a part of creating them helps to accomplish the goals of the previous noted topics. This may be the reason why people do not have the knowledge and the background to understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues.

Learn as a Learner
In EDLD 5344, we learned about school law. I feel that we did not learn enough about the techology issues that deal with school law. We did touch base on some but I feel that there is so much more out there to learn. I would have enjoyed working on a case study where a school was being held liable for not doing one of the issues that are discussed in this chapter. I feel that this would have been more beneficial to use as technology leaders. Don't get me wrong I did learn a lot about the whole process of created and IEP and the ARD committee. For that assignment I was very lucky to have such great colleagues that were there to help me through all my questions.
I found this chapter a little harder to follow than the previous chapters. I found myself forcing myself to read it. I think that this may be because some of the reading was harder to understand, since we do not put forth as much emphasis on it in my school atmosphere and I don't have that much experiencee with working in this area.

Lifelong Learning Skills
In the future, where ever it may take me, I feel that it is very important to cover the issues from Chapter 6. I believe that in many places that they are not discussed and if they are it is very little. There are many on my campus that still get confused on what everything covers. As a leader I will make it a priority to make sure that everyone on my campus or in my district clearly understands each piece of this valuable information wether it be the scoail, ethical, legal or human issues. There is so much for people to learn about these new tools that are out there for us to use and understand. In Solomon and Schrum’s book they make a great point that drives this goal to teach about these issues along with integration. They say, “while people usually think they know what ethical behavior is, there is often a fine line between ethical and unethical actions. No where is this more evident than online, where many people seem to believe that because they are physically able to copy or download files, it is ok to go ahead and do it.” (Solomon & Schrum, 2007, p. 145).
